Mother dumps newborn next to railway

A 37-year-old woman dumped her newborn in the bushes next to a railway in Dullstroom on Sunday afternoon.

The police received a tip-off from a passerby who remained anonymous that he spotted what looked like a baby. Upon arrival, the police confirmed it was a baby and urgently summoned emergency medical services and they took the infant to the hospital.

“Investigations by the police led to the mother, and she was was arrested and charged accordingly. She is expected to appear at the Belfast Magistrate’s Court today,” said the police.
