MP’s Legislature Deputy Speaker passes away

Deputy Speaker of the Mpumalanga Legislature, James Jim Skosana passed away yesterday. 

SANCO and ANC Chief Whip’s office in the legislature announced his passing. The cause of death is still unknown at this stage. SANCO described his passing as shocking. 

“SANCO Mpumalanga has learnt with great shock and sadness of the passing of comrade JJ Skosana, the Provincial Chairperson of SANCO in Mpumalanga. He has been a total embodiment of a people cantered development from the humble beginnings of his struggle life as an activist. Cde JJ Skosana has proven to be an astute legislator after serving with distinction in the aforementioned areas of responsibility till his last day,” said SANCO spokesperson, Sifiso Zulu. 

The ANC’s Chief Whip office also extended its condolences to the Skosana family. 

“The Caucus is saddened and shocked following the passing of Cde JJ Skosana. He was an astute member who had integrity, dedication possessed an extra leadership style. We wish to send comforting words to the family. The ANC and the alliance have lost a great man,” read the statement. 

Skosana served at various levels of government. He was a teacher and HOD at Sekemisa Primary School, a councillor of Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, a member of Parliament serving in various Committees including Education, Water and Environment, Whip of both Defence and State Security Subcommittee, and Water and Environment Committee; the Chairperson of the SCOPA, the Chief Whip and Chair of Chairs of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.  Cde JJ Skosana has proven to be an astute legislator after serving with distinction in the aforementioned areas of responsibility till his last day.

Details of the funeral arrangement will be communicated later in the week in consultation with the family.
