Mpumalanga Sports Awards to honour top athletes

MBOMBELA – It is that time of the year to celebrate and honour Mpumalanga athletes and teams who excelled in sports in the past year.

The Annual Mpumalanga Sports Awards (MPSA) will take place on Sunday, September 18 at Emnotweni Arena.

The MPSA are aimed at honouring and celebrating local athletes and teams who put the province on the sporting map. Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Thandi Shongwe, will confer the Lifetime Achiever and Sport Legend awards. The public will also have a say on who wins the Sports Fan of the Year. People’s Choice Sport Star of the Year awards. Voting details are available on the MPSA Facebook page.

The categories are: Newcomer of the Year, Developing School Team of the Year, School Team of the Year. Administrator of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sport Woman of the Year. Sport Woman of the Year with a Disability, Sport Man of the Year, Sport Man of the Year with a Disability. Sport Journalist of the Year, Sport Fan of the Year and Sport Star of the Year.

“The past year saw our athletes and teams achieving excellent results on the national stage. The MPSA provides us with a platform to celebrate these individuals and teams,” said the department’s spokesperson Sibongile Nkosi. The ceremony will be televised on SuperSport Variety 2 at 20:00.
