Mashego was hijacked and brutally murdered. According to the police, on Monday morning, July 25, they followed a lead to a suspicious vehicle. It was parked behind a certain house. The vehicle was covered with a white cloth. Upon arrival, they found an old woman.

“At first, the old woman refused any knowledge of the vehicle. However, we were not derailed and continued our search. We discovered the vehicle was the VW Polo, which was reportedly hijacked during the incident which took the life of the traffic officer,” read the police statement.

The police also discovered that the vehicle’s battery was removed and hidden in one of the son’s bedrooms. “The old woman and her two sons were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. We cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspect and further link them to a hijacking and murder case.” The suspects are expected to appear at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court soon.
