Public Works officials and company directors arrested for corruption

MBOMBELA – Officials from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

They are facing charges of corruption, fraud and money laundering together with directors of a company who claimed for services they did not render.

According to the Provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the deputy chief director Sipho Ronny Monareng colluded with the company directors who made misrepresentation and submitted claims to the department amounting to R1.38 Million.

“It is alleged that during the Covid-19 pandemic other officials including Magdonald Boto Sigudla. A State Accountant Bandile Jacob Ngcebo and suppliers Maganeleng Antony Mashego, Whisky Delisa Khumalo as well as Tshidi Suzen Sedibe also benefitted from the deal,” said Captain Sekgotodi.

The matter was reported to the Hawks in November 2021 for further probe. During further investigations, it was discovered that Monareng facilitated the whole process.

The accused were arrested and appeared in court. They were granted R10 000 bail each and the case was postponed to November 2 for further investigations.
