Scammers send fake appointment letters using former MM’s name

Scammers have once again duped members of the public using Gert Sibande District Municipality name to issue fake appointment letters.

The municipality said it has learnt with disappointment that the fake document has a former Municipal Manager, Absenia Habile’s name and signature. Habile was on a fixed term contract of employment with GSDM, which ended in October 2022.

“The district has been made aware of letters of appointment awarding projects to service providers using Habile’s name. GSDM distances itself from such activity and requests the public, in particular service providers, to avoid falling prey to the scam. We conducted all procurement activities of the institution in line with all Supply Chain Management Regulations. No individual has the privilege of diverting from the normal procedures,” read the municipality’s statement.
