School security guard killed in robbery

A security guard was beaten to death on Sunday morning when suspects broke into Malekutu Primary School.

58 year-old Elliot Mndlovu’s body was discovered in the early hours. According to a report from the school, the room where Mndlovu spent his time in between his patrols was forcefully opened.

“Hi-Tech Security company responded to investigate the scene when they received a signal from the school’s alarm system and immediately dispatched a patrol squad to the school.Upon arrival there was no sign of the security guard and after searching around the premises they found the lifeless body of Mr. Mndlovu lying dead close to the computer laboratory,” reads a statement from the Mpumalanga Department of Education.

A tablet, an overhead projector and a school panic button were also stolen.

MEC, Catherine Dlamini visited the school and the bereaved family on Monday, June 24 June 2024.

She called on members of community to work collectively to fight crime in the area and assist with providing law enforcement agencies with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
She also urged the community to refrain from buying stolen goods indicating that they should however, report any person who is selling such items to the authorities.

The department also deployed officials from the wellness section to render psycho-social support to everyone who s affected by this horrific incident at the school and family.

The MEC concluded her words of comfort by calling upon anyone who might have information that would be useful in the investigation to contact the nearest police station.
