MBOMBELA- Sifiso Vusimuzi Sibanyoni was denied bail today by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.
This is after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) successfully opposed bail in the case against the 39 year-old man who stands accused of the premeditated murder of his wife, Dr Nondumiso Sibanyoni (34).
The court ruled that Sibanyoni failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances warranting his release on bail. The court further found that his release could disturb public order and pose a risk of interference with, or intimidation of witnesses.

State Prosecutor Nokwanda Langa opposed the bail application by presenting compelling evidence from the Investigating Officer, highlighting the serious nature of the charges and the broader context of the country’s ongoing battle against gender-based violence.
The accused was arrested on 8 July, 2025 by the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit in connection with the fatal shooting of Dr Sibanyoni, which occurred on the morning of 20 November, 2024 outside a gym in Mbombela. The matter has been postponed to 5 September, 2025 for further investigation.
