Smuggled vehicle worth R2.7 million gathering dust at Lebombo Border

KOMATIPOORT – A smuggled vehicle worth about R2.7 million has been left abandoned at the Lebombo Port of Entry three weeks ago.

According to Lebombo Border Post Manager, Col Obe Maditsi, it is alleged that the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG belongs to one of the Mozambican President’s sons.

“The vehicle had Mozambican registration plates when we found it. Our investigation revealed that it was registered under a South African national. We then told the driver to call the owner, who said it belonged to one of the sons to hand himself over and bring the vehicle documents with. The vehicle has been here for three weeks and no one is coming to the fore. The owner is actually a wanted man,” said Col Maditsi.

Mpumalanga Mirror contacted the Mozambican consul, Augustinho Eugenho Langa to confirm whether the car belonged to one of Filipi Nyusi’s sons. He, however, said his colleague, Pinesio Sitoe to respond to questions as he was on leave in Maputo. On Sunday, he said they were verifying whether the allegations were factual.

“We are still checking the information, but so far we don’t have any connection to the alleged owner of the vehicle,” he said.
