Social Development MEC tests positive for Covid-19

Mpumalanga Department of Social Development MEC, Blessing Thandi Shongwe tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, October 7.

Her results came after two other MECs, Pat Ngomane and Gabisile Shabalala as well as the Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane tested positive.

According to a statement issued by the department, Shongwe went to a compulsory Covid-19 test as required by the current hospital’s Patient Admission Policy as she was scheduled to undergo an eye medical procedure.

“MEC Shongwe is currently in self-isolation and will continue to work from home in ensuring that the department continues to provide equitable, integrated and quality sustainable social development services to eradicate poverty and protect vulnerable groups. The MEC remains in high spirits and confident that she will defeat the virus as she has not shown any Covid-19 symptoms,” said the department’s Comfort Ngobe.
