Taxi operators warned against bullying motorists

MBOMBELA- Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Jackie Macie has called on taxi operators to refrain from bullying motorists on the road.

This comes after a viral video on social media showing. A taxi patrol vehicle was captured harassing motorists on the N4 on separate occasions.
In the video, the taxi patrol vehicle is seen trying to block the vehicle behind and disrupting the flow of traffic.

The MEC said that this clearly shows that some of these taxi operators have no regard for the road rules, let alone human lives.

“The arrogant driver clearly cared less about the safety of other road users. He was making it difficult for other drivers to use the road safely. These type of rogue operators and their friends must be held accountable and be accordingly punished,” the MEC said.

Macie said government acknowledges the role that the taxi industry play in the growth of the economy. Acts of bullying towards other motorists cannot be acceptable. “Issues should be resolved amicably without resorting to vigilantism or breaking the law,” he said.
