2023 World Gold Panning Championships to kick-off on Sunday

The 2023 World Gold Panning Championships will take place in Pilgrims Rest from 6 to 12. August.

A total of 21 countries will compete to be crowned the World Gold Panning Champions. This championship marks a significant moment for South Africa as the world’s attention turns to our great nation. The event promises to be a thrilling competition, showcasing the skill and dedication of the participants from around the globe.

In addition to the competition, there will be an array of fun-filled activities that will cater to the entire family. From cultural exhibitions to live music performances, there will be something for everyone to enjoy throughout the duration of the championship.

“We are very excited that this day has finally come. We had done a lot of preparations since we won the rights to host. I am confident the 20 nations which are part of this competition and the spectators from all over the world will feel the welcoming spirit of the people of South Africa in general and in particular the warm hands of the people of Mpumalanga,” said The MEC for Culture Sport and Recreation, Thandi Shongwe. 

The opening ceremony of the 2023 World Gold Panning Championship will take place on Sunday at 11:00 where the MEC will deliver a keynote address. The ceremony will be followed by a street parade around Pilgrims Rest.
