MBOMBELA – Mpumalanga will have two clubs plying their trade in the GladAfrica Championship in the 2020/21 season.
TS Sporting was given a lifeline after surviving relegation last season after finishing in the 14th position. Sporting has signed new players to strengthen their squad during the transfer window. Abantu bemthetho, roped in Leathan Croats, Kabelo Makola and Deon Horn from Bidvest Wits.
Ermelo-based Mpumalanga United formerly Acornbush United, bought Steenburg United’s status after failing to qualify in the last promotional play offs. It is not certain which name they’ll use in the new season. Mpumalanga Mirror, contacted United’s MacDonald Makhubedu to seek clarity on the team, however, his phone rang unanswered. Meanwhile, Moroka Swallows lifted the first ever GladAfrica Championship trophy after concluding the season with 57 points – a slight goal difference lead against Ajax Cape Town.
On the other end, Mbombela United was relegated after plummeting at the bottom of the log with only nine points.
