Thembisile Yende (48), a traffic officer, narrowly escaped a five-year prison term when her sentence was wholly suspended at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, December 9.
Yende was arrested in 2022 in Ermelo after the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Corruption Investigation team responded to motorists’ complains in Ermelo about traffic officials who sourced gratification in exchange of traffic laws violations.
An undercover operation was conducted on 30 March, 2022. After a lengthy observation, a police agent was had to pay R50 for failure to display the vehicle’s registration plates.

Yende was arrested and made several court appearances until she was sentenced to five years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that she is not found guilty of a similar offence.
