MBOMBELA – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga continues to make significant strides in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) through intensified intelligence-driven operations and the tracing of wanted suspects across the province.
Between 19 August 2026 and 6 September 2026, SAPS members, working closely with various law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, conducted high-density operations targeting serious and violent crimes.
As a result, 61 suspects were arrested for offences related to Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. Of the suspects arrested, 55 were charged with rape, while six were charged with attempted rape.
These arrests form part of the SAPS’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of crimes against women, children and other vulnerable persons are tracked down and brought before the courts.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, commended the dedication and commitment displayed by members involved in these operations.
“Gender-Based Violence and Femicide remains one of the priority crimes that the SAPS is determined to eradicate. We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations and strengthen partnerships with communities and stakeholders to ensure that perpetrators are identified, arrested and brought to justice.
We urge victims and survivors of GBVF to report incidents without fear and to seek the necessary support and assistance. Communities also play a critical role in helping law enforcement by reporting criminal activities and providing information that may assist investigations,” said Modise.
