SIYABUSWA – Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality Executive Mayor, William Thulare Madileng officially resigned as the Executive Mayor of the municipality after tendering his resignation in a special council sitting on September 30.
According to the municipality, the reason for his resignation is due to family related commitments. “The municipality respects his decision and will continue to support him. The municipality would like to wish him all of the best with his future endeavors,” read a statement the municipality issued out.

Madileng was sworn in as a Councillor on September 12, 2017. He served the embattled municipality for three years through challenging times when the municipality faced service delivery challenges. The municipality was put under administration following nine months of infighting which hampered service delivery last year.
Madileng was embroiled in a conflict with the Municipal Manager, Thami Ngobeni in a protracted battle that has seen the intervention of the courts and the office of the Public Protector investigating allegations of maladministration and corruption.

The Mpumalanga Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, provincial government said in a statement the decision to put the municipality under administration was informed by the “instances of administrative and leadership challenges leading to unrest making it impossible for the municipality to deliver basic services.”
