ANCYL Mpumalanga rejects PR Councillor lists

The African National Congress Youth League in Mpumalanga has given the ANC Provincial Executive Committee and National Executive Committee 48 hours to rectify the PR list submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission.

The Youth League has rejected the list deemed as “bogus.” This was followed by an urgent Provincial Working Committee meeting that was held to discuss the lists submitted.

“In our view, the list submitted to the IEC does not meet the set national guidelines of the ANC as it relates to the composition of proportional representation. The ANCYL participated in the Provincial List Committee meeting to determine the final list. The list that was agreed upon, had 25% in all municipalities across the length and breadth of the Province, except for Mbombela that had a myriad of challenges but were to be corrected.”

The statement further read that, the Youth League was dumbfounded by the final list as it was a misrepresentation of the decisions of the meeting. It also views this as a treasonous act, scandalous, corrupt, and glaringly undermining the collective wisdom of young people in the province.

“The ANC has been consistently making an unwavering commitment that in all its lists to councils, young people must at least have 25% representation. However, the ANC in the province found comfort in annoying us by disregarding this guideline. The thorough assessment of the ANCYL is that no municipality in all 20 municipalities in the province has met this 25% mandatory guideline as required.”

The ANCYL has resolved the following cause of action:

1. Young people in the province immediately withdraw participation from ANC campaigns on the ground until their demands are met.

2. All regions and structures of the ANCYL to halt all activities planned for this weekend.

3. They are giving the ANC PEC and the NEC 48 hours to resolve the matter or they will render the province ungovernable.
