Bakkie tyre burst claim three lives at Schagen

SCHAGEN – A bakkie carrying seven people at the back, a driver and a passenger, lost control when a back left tyre burst, lost control and threw out all passengers at the back as it crossed the bridge.

Three of the passengers died, while four others were rescued by police divers who were at the scene as they rescued as they retrieved the three bodies and four survivors.

This took place on Sunday afternoon on the N4 toll road between Alkmaar and Schagen towards Mbombela.
According to Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for Community Safety, Security and Liaison: “A light delivery vehicle (LDV) that they were travelling in, seemingly lost control after hitting a concrete guardrail on the side of the road. This happened as a result of a tyre burst.

“After the driver lost control upon hitting the guadrail, seven occupants who were siiting at the back were flung out of the bakkie.
“Three died at the scene, while four people were injured. The bakkie was travelling towards Montrose. Various ambulance services responded to the scene. The investigation into the crash is already underway,” he stated.
