The Deputy President David Mabuza’s body guard died at a scene of an accident in Middelburg yesterday.
The Deputy President’s motorcade was travelling between Mpumalanga and Gauteng when one of the back-up vehicles’ tyre burst, causing the vehicle to roll over. SAPS confirmed the incident which took place at about 10:30. Three members who were in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The SAPS Management expressed their sadness at this unexpected incident. The Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) Unit has been dispatched to notify the families of the deceased and the injured members.

National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has sent his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. He also wished the injured members a speedy recovery. They have registered a case of culpable homicide at the Middleburg Police Station.
