Four people were killed last night when a BMW sedan crashed into a tree on the N4 near Elandshoek towards Mbombela.
According to the Community Safety, Security and Liaison statement, the driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the tree.
Four of the victims, three males and one female, including the driver, died at the scene.
One critically injured passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital in Mbombela.
“Jaws of the life had to be used to remove the bodies from the wreckage. The vehicle was driving towards. While the crash is still under the investigation, it is suspected that the vehicle may have been moving at a speed not conducive for the prevailing conditions on the road.”
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe said motorists should use the road cautiously. Weekends do not mean families should lose their loved ones unnecessarily on the road.
“We need more responsible driving on the road because the trend of deadly crashes on weekends especially at night, is worrying. We want motorists to hear our messages and drive with greater caution at all times,” Shongwe said.
