Five people die on the R35

Five people died in a head-on collision between two sedans on the R35 between Amersfoort and Morgenzon on yesterday afternoon.

According to the Community Safety, Security and Liaison department, two more people sustained serious injuries, and another occupant escaped with slight injuries. The injured are receiving treatment at the nearby hospital.

The deceased includes one driver and four passengers. The cause of the crash is still unknown. “However, we cannot rule out dangerous overtaking as the cause.”

MEC Vusi Shongwe is appealing to motorists to be cautious and also pay more attention to the rules in order to avoid needless loss of life and injury on the road.

“We continue to make a clarion call to our drivers to pay more attention while driving. They must also obey the rules and drive considerately. We must strive to spare lives because road safety is the business of every road user,” says the MEC.
