Abraham Desalenge Menedo was arrested for selling counterfeit goods yesterday.
He was granted R1000 bail by the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was arrested for Contravening Section 2 (1) and Section 2 (2) of the Counterfeit Goods Act, Act 37 of 1997.

He was caught in possession of Gold Star Yeast at Zoom Zoom Cash and Carry on the Tonga main road this week. It is alleged that complaints about business owners selling counterfeit goods, including Gold Star Yeast, were brought forward.

“The brand owners investigated in collaboration with the Hawks Head Office. After completion, a search and seizure warrant was allowed leading to his arrest,” said Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi. The case was postponed to September 19, 2022 for further investigations.
