Police reports reveal that information emerged about a man who was allegedly seen carrying Nomsa to his house. The suspect was taken in for questioning and a kidnapping case was opened.“There was insufficient evidence by then to charge him, hence he was later released. Later, information surfaced that the missing child was inside a pit toilet at the suspect’s residence,” reads a statement from the police.
The body was discovered as well as bodies of three individuals, two males and one female on the street. The deceased were identified as Zele Papo Machika (53), Pauline Maubane (51) and Pauline’s son, Thabo Maubane (32). Two vehicles burnt to ashes were also discovered.

The police have changed the case of kidnapping to murder, while they also investigated three counts of murder. Acting MEC for Community Safety, Speedy Mashilo has called on communities to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“Crime levels in the country are unacceptably high. Many people continue to suffer and lose their loved ones at the hands of criminals. It is therefore important that we all work together to solve existing crime cases and take part in efforts to prevent crime. Communities should continue to play a role by giving the police information and tip-offs rather than becoming involved in vigilantism,” said Mashilo.
