GSDM mayor appoints new MMCs

The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) officially appointed MMCs of the executive mayor Cllr Walter Mngomezulu.

The MMCs are full-time office bearers and have been appointed by Executive Mayor. This is in line with Section 80 of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998.

GSDM Mayoral Committee:

1. Cllr Flora Maboa-Boltman – Chairperson for Corporate Services Portfolio.
2. Cllr Nomkhosi Zulu – Chairperson for Community and Social Services Portfolio.
3. Cllr Phalaborwa Malatsi – Chairperson for Infrastructure and Technical Services Portfolio.
4. Cllr Bheki Buthelezi – Chairperson for Planning, Economic Development, and Innovation Portfolio.
5. Cllr Bethuel Zunguza – Chairperson for Financial Services Portfolio.
6. Cllr Busisiwe Mkhwanazi – Chairperson for Special Programmes Portfolio.
7. Cllr Banana Mollo – Chairperson for Monitoring and Evaluation Portfolio.

The Mayoral Committee structure is aimed at assisting the Executive Mayor. It offers advice in decision-making with its powers. The Executive Mayor as the Chairperson of the Mayoral Committee makes the final decision. However, the Gert Sibande District Council is a category C-municipality with a mayoral executive system. The council consists of 48 councillors 19 of who are proportionally elected councillors.
