A 38-year-old Muzi Shakwane allegedly murdered a man after he found him and his girlfriend in the house on August 19.
He made his first appearance at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday following the incident.
According to the police, the deceased was in a relationship with the same woman. An argument broke out between the three and Shakwane assaulted them. He threw a brick at the man with a brick and also hacked both of them with a garden tool.
“The woman sustained some injuries, and she was taken to hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the man succumbed to his injuries and was certified dead at the scene. He was identified as Bongani Shabalala from Saselani Trust near Bushbuckridge,” said the police.
The police in Bushbuckridge opened an additional charge of assault intending to cause grievous bodily harm. Shakwane handed himself to the police in the presence of his lawyer on August 20. The case was postponed to August 29 for a formal bail application while he remains in custody.
