Patients advised to collect chronic medication at Themba Hospital

Themba Hospital is back to normal as of today following a two-week hiatus.

According to the Department of Health, the hospital is fully functional with all sections of the hospital open. All patients who are on chronic medication are encouraged to go to the hospital to collect their medication.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support and patience during the past two weeks. We worked together with Department of Safety and Community Liaison, and SAPS to attend to the security concerns in the hospital,” reads the statement.

Two weeks ago, the hospital closed after disruptions by several community members. They said they were fighting for equal opportunities and jobs. The Premier, Health MEC and Deputy Director General, visited the hospital to intervene and listen to staff grievances. After a lengthy meeting with organised labour and the hospital management, all parties reached tito an amicable solution.
