Traffic officer run over by truck on N2

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety Security and Liaison (DCSSL) lost a traffic officer on Tuesday evening when he was hit by a truck on the N2 Road between Mkhondo and Phongola.

The 52 year- old male senior provincial inspector who was employed at the Piet Retief Cost Centre met his untimely death while doing routine traffic law enforcement duties with a colleague, who was on the other side of the road.

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the incident. The acting MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, Busisiwe Shiba sent her condolences to the family of the official, his colleagues, and friends.

“We are deeply saddened by the development. We are sending our heartfelt condolences to families, friends, and colleagues of the de eased. Although the investigation is underway, we are calling on law enforcement officers not to be deterred in their quest to make our roads safer,” said Shiba.

The name of the deceased traffic official will be released in due course.
