VIDEO: ANC honours Dr Esther Mahlangu

MBOMBELA – As Heritage Month was concluded with a Heritage and Tourism Expo at the University of Mpumalanga on Monday, Internationally acclaimed Ndebele artist, Dr Esther Mahlangu was also honoured.

The expo hosted by the African National Congress Gender and Equity Sub-Committee. It was aimed at celebrating the contribution of the youth and women to economic growth. This also highlighted the party’s commitment to their commitment, empowerment, the preservation of their heritage, and the uplifting of communities.

One of the highlights was Dr Esther Mahlangu being honoured for her unique Ndebele designs which have preserved a rich cultural heritage and made it to global stages over the years.

Speaking at the ceremony, the 88 year-old legendary Mahlangu boldly spoke of the places she has visited across the world. She said she was honoured that her work is recognised.

Chairperson of the Gender and Equity Sub-Committee, Angie Motshekga commended Mahlangu for her work. ANC NEC member, Bathabile Dlamini shared her sentiments.

“As a country we are proud of you. There is no better way to show our appreciation as the ANC than to honour you in the presence of those who are close to you. Thank you for putting us on the map,” said Dlamini.

Additionally, three local women received massage beds, an opportunity to be linked to accommodation establishments and training to be certified massage therapists in an effort to drive tourism for inclusive growth and prosperity.
