WATCH: Emergency Services vehicle set alight at protest

A vehicle belonging to the Mpumalanga Department of Health was set alight in Casteel, Bushbuckridge, this morning.

The vehicle was on its way to another facility when the driver came in contact with protesters on the R40. The driver was taken out of the vehicle but was not harmed. The protesters then burned the vehicle.

According to reports, the protest was due to lack of service delivery in the area. MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini has strongly condemned the act. She says destroying public property meat for public use is not a solution or the correct way to address concerns.

“The community has a right to raise concerns if they are not satisfied with the service delivery. However, there are platforms and channels available. Councillors, mayors and other representatives were elected to ensure they engage with communities.”

A case has been opened while investigation continues.
