WATCH: Ritha Khumalo proves brick laying is not only a man’s job

Ritha Khumalo, a 38-year-old from Khumbula, Kabokweni, is shattering stereotypes and proving that building and bricklaying is no longer a man’s job. With over 17 years of experience in the construction sector, the local seasoned bricklayer has achieved remarkable success in a field traditionally dominated by men.

“I started bricklaying in 2007 due to the lack of job opportunities in our province. I had to think outside the box and explore alternative ways to support myself and my family,” Khumalo explained in an interview.

The self-employed bricklayer told Mpumalanga Mirror that she had to overcome many difficulties to reach where she is today, noting she faced skepticism and doubt from those who believed that bricklaying was a man’s job. However, she persevered and worked hard to prove them wrong.

“It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to succeed. I’ve worked on numerous construction projects and I take pride in my work and strive to deliver high-quality results,” she added.
