MOREMELA – Illegal mining has become rife in the Leroro community with Zama Zamas’ terrorising the community.

Her Royal Highness Princess Eurika Mogane from the Mogane Royal Traditional Council, in a statement, said the community lives in fear. “The illegal miners threatened to bury 10 bodies by the end of the week,” her statement reads.
One headman (Induna) shot and injured a zama zama in his arm and right leg. The community alleges that the assailant was harassing them.

“They have attacked several Indunas, their families and vandalised various properties. The Mogane Royal Family and the Mogane Traditional Council are condemning these criminal acts. We request the assistance of the media to spread this information until we get provincial or national intervention. Community members live in constant fear, and some of them are being housed for safety.
