A member of the African National Congress was shot dead on the way to a Branch General Meeting at Ward 21, Kanyamazane yesterday.
Norman Ngwenya succumbed to his injuries while another member was injured. The ANC Region says the incident shocked the organisation.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family that lost its member. We also wish the person who got injured a speedy recovery. It is so disheartening that we are getting these disturbing reports of violet conduct by our members,” read the statement.
Regional Secretary Folus Sibuyi said also pointed out an incident in Ward 22 where one of their members was stabbed during the pre-BGM. In Ward 29, the secretary of the branch was also brutally attacked and stabbed on the date of the BGM.
“We are appealing to all the members of the ANC to avoid attending meetings in branches where they do not belong. During this hard moment, branches which are taking the work of the ANC serious also encouraged us.”

“As Ehlanzeni Region, we have passed the 70% mark in terms of the preliminary verification report. We call upon all members of the ANC in the Region to be calm and work towards the Renewal of the Organisation. The REC is still going to process a report on the conduct of these few members that are destabilising the work of the organisation at Mbombela Sub-Region.”
