Finance minister called to step down for sexual assault allegations

There is a call for the minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, to step aside following allegations of sexual assault.

The minister was at Kruger Shalati where he was offered a massage when the incident occured. Subsequently, the alleged victim opened a case at Skukuza Police Station. Meanwhile, the daughter of former president Jacob Zuma and the ANC Youth League National Fund Raiser, Thuthukile Zuma and NotInMyName movement among others have called out the minister to step down.

“We all appreciate more, especially the African National Congress, that GBV is a scourge we really struggle to deal with in our country. It’s pervasive, and of course, GBV is a manifestation of patriarchy. Toxic masculinity and all those things, but it’s something that we’ve taken a decision to fight seriously.”

“We feel women, especially young women, are not safe in our country. They are not safe to walk freely, they are not safe in social spaces. They’re not safe really anywhere and it’s something that must be taken seriously. The fight must intensify,” says Zuma. Godongwna has denied the allegations.
