Multiple-vehicle collision leaves three dead

MBOMBELA- A collision involving a midi Bus, bakkie and an articulated truck has left three people dead on the D2296 Road near Karino this morning.

The midi bus was transporting learners who were traveling to various schools in Mbombela.

The deceased are the driver and passenger of the bakkie and one learner from who was an occupant in the midi bus.

Twenty seven (27) people sustained injuries varying from slight to serious, and they were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The injured include the driver of midi bus and twenty six (26) learners.

The D2296 Road between Karino and Mbombela is currently closed. Vehicles traveling to and from Mbombela can use the N4 Toll Road.

Although cause of the crash is yet to be established through investigations, it is suspected that unsafe overtaking might have been the cause.
