Missing Junior Mabandla found buried in shallow grave

Six year-old Junior Mabandla’s body was found after a month since he went missing last month.

According to police, an 18-year-old man has since been apprehended in connection with the discovery.

Colonel Donald Mdluli said police were called to a scene in Pienaar where a group of community members gathered. A man who related to them that he was somehow involved in the disappearance of two children, a three-year-old girl who was sought by her family on Thursday as well as Junior Mabandla.

He said upon arrival of the police, the situation was very tense with a large number of people, which made it a bit hard for police to manoeuvre.

“Eventually, members finally reached a place where it is believed that the little could have been buried. Thereafter members also arrived at the cemetery then found the said man with some injuries. It was during this time when the man was taken to a medical facility for treatment whilst Police were shown a grave where the remains of Junior were kept,” said Colonel Mdluli.

Junior Mabandla’s family members indicated that the clothes that were recovered together with the remains, were that of their child therefore the remains were collected accordingly by the Forensic Pathology officials.

The suspect  is currently receiving medical treatment under Police guard after being reportedly assaulted by some members of the community. It is expected that the body of the three-year-old girl will be exhumed in Pienaar today.

Meanwhile Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi further emphasized that the police will leave no stone unturned and urged members of the public to allow justice to take its course and refrain from vigilantism.
