Mpumalanga Premier pledges to tackle service delivery issues

KABOKWENI – Premier Mandla Ndlovu has committed to addressing pressing service delivery concerns raised by residents during his recent Imbizo programme held on May 23 at the Kabokweni Stadium.

The community gathering was part of the Executive Council’s (EXCO) outreach program, aimed at enhancing public participation and reinforcing the provincial government’s dedication to transparency and accountability.

Residents from various areas within the City of Mbombela Local Municipality voiced their concerns over critical issues affecting their daily lives, including the deplorable state of road infrastructure, inadequate housing, access to clean and reliable water supply, job creation, crime, and gender-based violence.

The community further emphasised the need for the re-opening of Elijah Mango College, underscoring its vital role in the local education system.

“We are tired of living in a community with potholed roads and inadequate housing. We need our government to prioritize our needs and deliver on their promises,” said Mduduzi Mabuza, a concerned resident from Ward 11.
In response, Ndlovu assured residents that their concerns would be prioritised and addressed effectively. “I urge all Members of the Executive Council to collate the critical issues raised and work diligently to address them, ensuring our actions align with the needs and aspirations of our communities,” Ndlovu said.

Residents welcomed the Premier’s commitment, with Mavis Mgwenya, a resident from Ward 25, saying, “I welcome the Premier’s commitment to addressing our concerns. We need action, not just words. We hope that the government will follow through on their promises and bring about real change in our community.”

Crime was a major concern raised during the engagement, with the Premier outlining the province’s approach to tackling it through community involvement. “We also call upon our communities to join hands with us and fight crime, since it affects everybody,” he added.

The Premier also highlighted plans to work closely with officials to tackle the issue effectively, noting that a crime prevention strategy has been developed. The programme saw members of the Executive Council engaging directly with communities, visiting numerous projects, and holding stakeholder engagement sessions, fostering a deeper understanding of community needs and challenges.

Premier Ndlovu expressed his gratitude to residents for participating in the programme , emphasising the provincial government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
