Police officers appear in court for escorting dagga

The three police officers, Sergeant Solomon Mebo, Sergeant Jabulane Mbuyane, and Constable Lavandre LaReservee appeared in court yesterday, June 12, at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court for Defeating ends of Justice.

The trio were granted a fixed bail of R1500 each. Their next court date is July 25. The other two suspects, Joel Mamba and Monica Zwane, will appear in court on June 17 for bail application.

This follows after they were apprehended for allegedly escorting a vehicle trafficking dagga along the N4 near Matsulu T-junction. According to the police, the three officers were driving in a marked police vehicle in full uniform. The members were on duty at the time and the vehicle,Toyota Corolla was carrying 107 bags loaded with dagga.

“Members of the Matsulu SAPS received intelligence information about the dodgy activities and responded accordingly, and cornered the suspects,” reads the police statement.

The three are facing charges of corruption and the confiscated dagga is estimated to be worth millions of rands. Meanwhile, internal disciplinary actions will be instituted against the officers.
