Prison warden appears in Witbank Magistrate’s Court for drug dealing

A prison warden, Tinyiko Claudia Mathebula, appeared at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court yesterday for drug dealing.

The Hawks arrested her in the early hours of Thursday morning. They released her on R3 000 bail. Her case was postponed to January 27, 2022, for further investigation.

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team nabbed Mathebula, who works at the Paxton Correctional Services Witbank,. The accused contravened the Drug and Drugs Trafficking Act 140 of 1992.

According to the Hawks, the K9 Dog Unit Middelburg and Crime Intelligence Witbank responded to a tip-off about the accused allegedly dealing with drugs. A search warrant was issued and executed at the house of the Mathebula.

“An assortment of drugs that include 2 474.4 grams of Crystal meth, 79.8 grams of cocaine, 1.6 grams of cocaine rock, 15.4 grams of heroin worth R870 000. There were also cash notes amounting to R70 000. They seized cash for further investigation,” read the statement.
