A man shot his friend dead and turned the firearm on himself at a tavern in Barberton yesterday.
According to police, the prison warden, Ralph Hlophe in possession of his firearm when he shot his friend, Chris Mkhonto. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage.

“He allegedly shot his friend before turning the gun on himself. Police as well as the paramedics were notified about the incident and upon arrival, the two were certified dead by the medical personnel at the scene,” read the police statement.
A case of murder was opened and an inquest is also investigated. The pair have already been identified by their families.

Police said they will also investigate how the firearm was permitted at the tavern and whether lockdown regulations were adhered to.
“Drastic actions will definitely be taken against those who will be found to have violated the regulations without fear or favour.”
