Offender escapes at Barberton Correctional Centre

An inmate, Amos Shabangu Mashaba, has escaped at the Barberton Correctional Centre today.

The Department of Correctional Services and SAPS have launched a manhunt. An investigation will be instituted and the circumstances relating to the escape will be revealed once they have concluded the investigation.

The inmate is from Bushbuckridge, Cunningmore A. Mashaba was convicted for rape, theft, murder and robbery. He is serving life sentence at Barberton Medium B.

The Department is appealing for help with any information that may lead to the re-arrest of the offender. “We consider him being dangerous. If spotted, they should share information with the nearest Police Station,” read the statement.
