A former police Sergeant was involved in a business robbery in a shop at i’langa Mall today in Mbombela.
According to police, the former policeman worked at Crime Intelligence at the provincial office.

“At about 08:00 am, the armed group of suspects stormed into a shop where they held the employees’ hostage. They tied them up with a cable before robbing them of their cell phones, laptops, cash and computer boxes. Meanwhile, one worker at the shop was inside the bathroom during the robbery and called for help,” read the police statement.
Security officers cornered the suspects a few moments later when they tried to flee from the scene. They were driving a white Toyota Corolla Quest with no registration.

“The police arrived at the scene. Upon the arrest, they found the suspects in possession of the stolen property, including two laptops, cash and computer monitors. The police also seized two firearms and ammunition from the suspects.”
The quart faces business robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of Traffic Laws charges. The quart will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.
